2016 Inverell’s Got Talent

Report by Don Learmonth

Last Friday night, 21st October, 2016 the Inverell East Rotary club organised the Inverell’s Got Talent performance at the Town Hall.  With MC Peter Caddey leading the way there were 6 junior acts followed by 14 senior acts with a wide variety of performers. The Junior Winner was Geoff McCosker who played guitar and sang “I See Fire”.  From the remaining 14 acts, 5 were selected to win $200 each and selecting the best five was an extremely difficult choice for the judges.  Di Hall has just returned from taking a party of 160 which included a concert band and a choir on a tour of Europe which received standing ovations in Europe. Jim Haynes, the other judge is a well-known Australian celebrity. They were very impressed with the talent on display. Those five winners were “The Best of Us”, a band who played their own composition; Benita McElhinney who played piano and sang, “Wind Beneath My Wings”; Emma Dykes who played guitar and sang her own composition, ”Man About The House”;  Josh Cunningham who performed “ Music of the Night’ and the Craze Dance Academy who danced “Papaoutai”  The overall winner who collected $1000 was Josh Cunningham and he was obviously a very popular winner with the very enthusiastic audience.

After the judges had deliberated and made their decisions, Jim Haynes entertained the crowd with his ukulele, his singing, his stories and his humour.  The audience loved him and it was easy to see why he is such a successful and popular entertainer.

The Inverell East Rotary club would like to sincerely thank all the sponsors and the people of Inverell who every year come to the Town Hall to support our local talent and enjoy a great evening’s entertainment.  Congratulations to all the performers and especially the winners.
