NYSF (National Youth Science Forum)

It’s science, but it’s so much more than that.

Dear Rotary,

From January 16th to 28th, Inverell High School students Emily McIntyre and Madeline Thompson attended the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF). The NYSF is a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) based camp for Year 12 students, holding sessions in Canberra and Brisbane throughout January.

We were hosted by Burgmann College of the Australian National University in Canberra, and over the two weeks, we attended various lectures, lab visits and social activities, as well as experiencing life on campus.

NYSF was an amazing experience. We were exposed to so many people, and it granted us insights as to what a career in STEM would entail. Students were divided into various groups based upon our scientific interests; chemistry, biology, physics, medicine, engineering, computer science and ecology. The lectures and lab visits we attended were based on these categories. We were able to see state of the art facilities and meet highly renowned scientists, which was truly an inspiration.

Without Rotary, we wouldn’t have been able to partake in such an incredible program, so thank you so much for sponsoring us and giving us this amazing opportunity.
