Inverell East Rotary Changeover 2019

Last Friday night the Inverell East Rotary club changeover dinner was held at the Inverell Club. Outgoing president, Tim Newberry had led the club to a very successful year. One of the highlights for Tim was the opening of the May Street Park, an ongoing project with the Inverell Shire Council. The park is well used and provides an excellent viewing area over the town. The club has been very busy with local community projects as well as supporting Rotary programmes like Mental Health and Shelter Box. The Inverell High School captain made an appearance to present a cheque, raised by the students to go towards the purchase of another Shelter box.  Shelter boxes are flown into crisis areas like tsunamis or hurricanes to provide shelter and survival items for a family who has lost everything, anywhere in the world. An amazing total of over $47,000 was given out to community and Rotary projects. This was even more outstanding when you realise the club cancelled two of its normal fund raisers, the Duck Race and the Copeton Swim, because of the effects of the drought on the community.

Ros Scoble was inducted into the role of President of Inverell East Rotary Club for the next year. She introduced her team for the coming year. President elect, Paul Alliston, secretary Dave Ryan, Treasurer Barry Mason, and board members Les Moulds, Julie Clendinning, Larry Whitbread, Alistair Williams, Paul Ray and Richard Hudson.

Two highlights of the evening were Larry Whitbread’s surprise when his whole family were present to witness the confirmation of a Paul Harris fellowship, the highest honour a Rotarian can receive. Well done Larry.

The second was the recognition of Michael O’Sullivan and the “Wild Billy Lids”, a group that performs at The Australia Cafe every Thursday lunch. They donated over $2000 to the Rotary Foundation to help others in the last year. Wonderful music and well-done Michael.
