Inverell’s Got Talent

Rotary Talent Spectacular

The Inverell Town Hall was the scene of a spectacular display of local talent on Friday night 20th October. Attracted by the opportunity to “strut their stuff” and share in the $2000 prize money a lively lineup of performers, young and old, demonstrated that IGT is indeed a great way to start the annual Sapphire City Festival.

Members of the Inverell East Rotary Club, along with community and Inverell High student volunteers, organised and ran this impressive and entertaining event. They were ably supported by the sound-engineering and lighting skills of the inimitable community stalwart, Allen East. The club is most grateful to the Inverell Shire Council, all local sponsors, STA FM and the Inverell TIMES for their generous support. It was certainly a team effort.

The results were as follows – The Jenny Fox Memorial Prize for best Junior performer went to Savannah Lea, with a Highly Commended going to Fletcher Andrews.

Best Original Song went to Alex Munro. In the Senior section the judges chose their Top 4 – Clara Bryan/Susan Davis (Vocal Duo), Kiara Lind (Dance), Alex Munro (Vocal) and VS & JM (Vocal Duo) before announcing the overall winners for 2023 – our friends from P.N.G., Virgil and Jonathan (VS & JM) for their amazing rendition of “Tennessee Whisky”. Highly Commended awards went to Northern Chorale and Sam Frazier. Many thanks to our judges, Chris Richter, Jasmine Aleisha and Peter Champion.

Additional entertainment was provided by guest performers The Dramamatics with a haunting piece entitled “The March of the Murri-gee-jar” composed by Alex Munro and directed by Steph Marshall and Michele Jedlicka. Other guest entertainers were the fabulous Glen Innes duo “The Abbeys” and, as always, local legends Peter Caddey, Chris Richter and Jasmine Aleisha.

Prizes were presented by event organiser, Tim Newberry, filling in for Inverell East Rotary President Julie Clendinning. Tim congratulated all performers and thanked everybody concerned with the show. He declared IGT 2023 a huge success.
