Successful Copeton Swim
The Copeton Fresh Water Swim was held in ideal conditions last Saturday. Known as ‘The Swim With Altitude’, it attracted swimmers, young and old, from east and west and even from Cairns in the north as well as from local areas. The oldest swimmer was 76 year old Helmut Klein from Yamba who swam in the 1000m race, which goes to show you are never too old! In total, 108 swimmers took part in four different length Events. This was 10 more than 2017.
The Swim is organised by the Inverell East Rotary Club and a number of community volunteers but could not run without the support of the Yamba Surf Life Saving Club, Inverell Shire Council and a number of local Business Houses. For the first time this year, the Committee also received a grant from the State Government through the representation of Local Member, Adam Marshall. The Yamba Club provides much of the safety equipment necessary as well as first aid facilities. A group of local kayakers was there to guide swimmers and assist any who may have found themselves in difficulties. The local Westpac Helicopter Fund Raising Committee was in attendance with barbecue facilities to feed the crowd.
The overall winners with rounded times were
5km ladies Maria Rosewood (Coffs Harbour) 1h 23min
