March 6 saw the 2026 Science & Engineering Challenge run at the Inverell RSM Club. The event has been supported by our club since 2010. Over those years over 3000 students attended the Challenge from 13 different schools.
Eight schools attended, including 194 students from McIntyre HS, Inverell HS, Glen Innes HS, Tenterfield HS, Warialda HS, Holy Trinity School, Ashford Central and Inverell Public School.
The event was supported by Engineers Australia BOSS engineering and the Rotary Clubs of Inverell & Inverell East.

The students had the opportunity to work in small groups at activities that are set to challenge teamwork and cooperation in a STEM setting. Activities included bridge building, Eco habitat design, communications systems, wind turbine design, glider design, fish traps and bionic limbs and electrical networking.
The eventual winner on the day was McIntyre HS, and runners up were Glen Innes HS.
Local Member for Northern Tablelands, Brendan Moylan attended as did Deputy Mayor Jo Williams. Hamish Smith from Boss Engineering was also there for the presentation.

A big thanks to Stewart Hill, Dick Hudson, Col Flood, Ros Scoble, John Scoble , Barry Mason, Dave Ryan and Larry Finney for their support and help over the two days.
Congratulations to Deb Curkpatrick(Inverell Rotary) on her power of work to pull the event together.
The event could not run without the support of the two local Rotary Clubs, Inverell Rotary and Inverell East Rotary. Their support is pivotal in the ongoing success of the event. Congratulations to the organizing team from Inverell for the success of the event.
