Club members had a truly enjoyable visit to Danthonia on Sunday. All of our members were welcomed as we got off the bus and as we were guided into the main hall introductions were made and friendships encouraged. Music filled the air, performed by some of their very talented musicians. This certainly added to the atmosphere of our welcome and the visit as a whole.

A warm welcome was extended by Andrew who then gave a brief history of the development of the Bruderhof community and the philosophy behind their lifestyle. This was followed by a history of the May Street Park development by Alistair who then expressed East Rotary’s sincere thanks for the part they played in its development.

The meal was delicious – meat loaf (I did suggest they might share the recipe), pasta, home grown beans and a yummy gravy. This was followed by home-made apple pie and ice cream.

There were several additional guests that were able to attend. Past District Governor Bob Ryan and Margaret from Armidale came for the visit as did several Rotarians and partners from Glen Innes.

The visit was finished off with a visit to the workings of their very successful signage factory and a brief talk on the process they go through. The changes have been phenomenal since my first visit to Danthonia and I am sure others felt the same.

One can’t help but be impressed by the sense of tranquillity that pervades the community. Smiles and laughter abound. Thank you Bruderhof community for a wonderful visit.          Ros Scoble
